What gets missed

As we ponder over the state of things, and envy arrives, what gets missed is the presentiment of loss that pervades subsequent observations. It’s hard to come back from it. But come back we must.

The present is here, and for the taking. It’s not lost. But despite the siren calls, it does not seem to suffice for most of us. I wonder why. The evidence is there, so is the overpowering reportage. But minding the present seems an exercise that ‘losers’ participate in.

We do not have an obligation to be useful to the world around us. We can be fine just living our life and departing from this world, leaving behind little physical trail, and some metaphysical luggage that is ephemeral in its temporality.
