I started watching this incredible documentary on the SpaceX Inspiration4 mission a few days back and it’s been on my mind constantly. That Musk’s comment – “I want mankind to be an inter-planetary species” reminded me that audacious ambitions can be so simply put.
We appreciate and respect complexity, because our life seems complex for the most parts. We start calling every system complex as the interdependency starts wrangling our brains. And yet, we cherish simplicity because its universal and needs no explanations. We skirt dangerous waters to offer up simplicity where it is not required or warranted or desired, but within our own lives we carve out complexities and whirlpools of confusion where simplicity may be allowed.
Clarity = Simplicity. But we must be wary of being simplistic.
I advise folks to read fiction because it brings to light the many ways our lives are so complex, and in so many ways the complexity is of our own making. Peeking into lives of people so different from ours turns us towards appreciating and accepting the “complex” circumstances we often find ourselves in. Acceptance is a valuable side-effect of spending time reading the Russian masters and the literature of yore.
