Picture of the Day: Leh, Ladakh

21 August 2011: Enroute Leh

Of all the things that can be said of this tranquil place panaromically framed within the multi-faceted mountains, probably the fiercest would be that it uproots you from your immediate surroundings, uplifts you to a giddy plane and all of a sudden it transfixes you with its sheer magnificence. If ever you feel the urge to humble yourself through the organic route you need to get on the National Highway 1D or the Treaty Road and let yourself be transported to an eddying current of nature’s harshest displays of brilliance. The background of stupas, mud huts and historic palaces are but tiny reminders of human presence amidst the largesse of mother earth. The decadence of the modern life would stand in stark contrast to the tranquillity that this pulsating valley provides.
